    1. amira safar veggies (dont go crazy though cause they have some carbs), meats (avoid processed as much as you can), fats (cheeses, nuts, dressings (check carbs though)) no fruits during initiation phase, no sweets. You can buy Russel Stovers sugar free candies at walmart. They’re delicious and only have about 2 grams of carbs per piece if you need something sweet. Sugar free jello is also good for something sweet. I drink green tea with sugar substitute if I’m in between meals to fill me up until the next meal. Good luck!

    1. It is a bit older than that. I am currently living in Moçambique as a Peace Corps volunteer. Internet service is spotty and I have to buy data with scratch off tickets (it’s a whole process), so I have refrained from doing updates. I do have an Instagram account that shows me now. @kandaceblevin. I am no longer following a strict diet, but I have maintained the weight loss.

    2. @Kandace Blevin Awesome for your weight loss as well as your being a PC volunteer! I’ve been doing Atkins and have been dropping weight fast. I’ve gotta say though that it’s restrictive to meats, veggies and dairy which can take the fun out of eating.

    1. As for specifics, each person’s needs may be a bit different, and you might need to play around with portion sizes. I found using the MyFitnessPal app to track my meals and calories very helpful.

Thank you Candace!!I am wondering what you ate on your first week of induction?Do you use the Adkins shakes or bars now?I also read several published studies proving the effectiveness of taking a cumin powder supplement totaling 1 tsp per day helped women burn body fat over a 12 week period.I buy bulk cumin powder and empty gelatin capsules and make my own:)Its worth trying as it is also a powering antioxidant!You have encouraged me so much!I am starting Atkins induction myself today!

    1. Thank you for the kind words! As for what I ate during the first week, that was many years ago, so I don’t recall exactly. When I am trying to get into ketosis nowadays, I usually eat eggs, bacon, cheese and half of a bell pepper or avocado for breakfast, a small salad with lots of meat and cheese on it (no croutons and very light on the tomatoes), and for dinner, I may skip it, or eat some meat/cheese snack like a charcuterie board. If I am dying for a treat, I will have a tsp or so of peanut butter.

    2. I never ate the premade bars by Atkins or anyone else. I just try to eat as cleanly as possible, so that means I limit prepackaged/ processed foods.

    3. I’ve heard about the benefits of cumin powder, and o congratulate you for that. You may also want to look into tumeric. Good luck on your journey! I can honestly say it is well worth the work!

    1. Thank you! They are actually quite similar. The biggest difference seems to be primarily that Atkins moves you into eating carbs after 2 weeks. The reason is that many people cannot sustain a strict keto diet over time without getting bored and cheating.
